JOHN V. AND FRANCES M. [LANC] SEDIVY

John V. Sedivy was born March 27, 1871, in Chicago, Illinois, and came to Knox County with his family. They lived on a homestead at Pischelville, Nebraska, where he grew to manhood and continued to develop the homestead, clearing land for farming and adding on to the original acreage.

He married Julia Marshall of Verdigre and they had five children: John, Jr., who died in infancy; Henry, who drowned in the Niobrara River at age 16; Walter - Niobrara; Edward - Verdigre, and Otilia - Wausa. His wife, Julia, passed away when the children were still small, and in 1922 he was married to Frances M. Lanc.

Frances, who was born in Czechoslovakia, had come to this country to live with a cousin, Mrs. Mike (Katie) Vesely in Pischelville. Katie was her only relative in this country. After her marriage to John V. Sedivy in July of 1922, they continued to live on the old homestead. They had one daughter, Irene (Foxworthy), Cody, Wyoming.

John took pride in his farming and his home. He built a house on the homestead which has served three generations. In his younger days, in 1909, John was elected and served as Justice of the Peace of Western Township of Knox County.

In 1932 John V. and Frances moved to Creighton where he passed away March 17, 1960, at the age of 89. He is buried in the Creighton cemetery. Frances is now living at Alpine Village in Verdigre.
