In 1879, the Skalicky family immigrated to America and landed in New
York. Later they traveled, probably by train, to Yankton, South
Dakota. On July 4, 1882, the Skalickys arrived at Niobrara,
Nebraska, and settled on a homestead nearby. Later they moved near
Lynch, Nebraska, and lived by their daughter and son-in-law, Joseph
and Anna Jelinek.
Again, they moved and located at Walnut, Nebraska, about a mile from
the Jelineks. During the time John and Josephine were in America, it
is believed that they farmed.
John passed away August 14, 1909, and afterwards Josephine lived at
the Jelineks until her death on April 20, 1916. Both are buried at
the Jelen Cemetery where four of their children are also buried.
