FRANK AND AMALIE [TICHY] SKOKAN, JR.

Frank Skokan, Jr., the fourth child of Frank and Anna (Safarik) Skokan, was born March 30, 1880, on a farm 6 ˝ miles southeast of Niobrara. He was the first of the Skokan children to be born in this country.

In 1906, he took over the farm from his parents when they moved to Niobrara.

On March 17, 1908, Frank, Jr., married Amalie (Molly) Tichy, daughter of Anton and Anna (Holan) Tichy. She was born September 3, 1889. This was a double marriage ceremony - the other couple being Frank V. Tichy and Mary Skokan. A year later a daughter was born to them but died within a few hours. She is buried on the homestead plot. Living. Frank O. was born. His mother passed away June 24, 1926, and for two years, Mrs. K. A. Tichy, sister of Frank, Jr., cared for the infant.

After the death of Mr. Skokan’s wife, he moved to Niobrara and lived with his brother, Adolph Skokan. After one year in town, he moved back to the farm and the next year, he took and raised his son, Frank O. He farmed for three years, and due to poor health, he retired in Niobrara where he lived until his death.

In 1911, Mr. Skokan became a member of the Western Bohemian Fraternal Association of Niobrara and from the time he joined he was an officer of that association. He was financial secretary and treasurer for 13 years.

In 1940 Frank O. Skokan acquired the homestead. In 1958 he married Blanche Pavlik, daughter of Rudolph and Tillie (Dobrichovsky) Pavlik. To this union five children were born: Mrs. Victor (Sheryl) Klug, Jr., living, who has two children, Amanda and Matthew; Frank L., born living; Mrs. Tim (Emily) Becker, born living, and they had one child, Ryan; Mrs. Randy (Susan) Frank, born living, and they have one child, Ashley; and Donald, who was born January 4, 1963.

On August 7, 1982, the Frank Skokan homestead received the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award during the Knox County Fair. A handsome engraved plaque and framed certificate were presented to owners of farms which have remained in the same family for one hundred years or more. The homestead is unique in that it has been owned by three generations of first name “Frank” Skokans.

Frank Skokan, Jr., died January 14, 1940, and Amalie (Tichy) Skokan died June 24, 1926. Both are buried at L’Eau Qui Court Cemetery, Niobrara.
