In 1901 Joseph purchased a farm southwest of Verdigre, Nebraska. On April 30, 1906, he married his neighbor Andrew Sukup’s daughter Frances. Four children blessed this union: Marie, Ruby, and Delmer. One son Joseph died in infancy.

Ruby graduated from Verdigre. She taught school near Creighton, Nebraska, before marrying Ray Demerath of Creighton. They had five children: Judy, Larry, Patricia, Phyllis, and Lois.

Delmer graduated from Creighton High School. He entered the army and served in World War II in the Signal Corp in Germany. After returning from service he married Kathleen Bueck of Belden, Nebraska. They had four children: Dan, Carol, Mary, and Jim. Later he married Junella Wood and they had one son David.

After living on the same farm for 34 years, Joseph departed this life on November 4, 1935.
