FRANK AND JOSEPHINE [SKALICKY] SOKOL
Frank Sokol was born January 10, 1877, at Niobrara, Nebraska, and
grew up on a farm north of Verdigre. He attended school in District
51 where he experienced the blizzard of 1888 and had to spend the
night in the schoolhouse. He had four brothers and seven sisters.
On February 20, 1905, he married Josephine Skalicky. She was born
February 25, 1877, in Sestroun, Bohemia, and came to America with
her parents. They lived in Boyd County, then in the Walnut
community. She had four sisters and one brothers.
The Frank Sokols farmed around Verdigre for fifty of their wedded
years, enduring the many hardships of drought, grasshoppers, and
anthrax.
In 1955 they moved to the town of Verdigre and there they celebrated
their 55th Wedding Anniversary in 1960.
Frank Sokol died August 7, 1960, at the age of 83 years. Mrs. Frank
Sokol died October 3, 1963, at the age of 86 years. They were the
parents of six children. Jerry died in infancy. Helen married Rudoph
Pospisil of Lindsay. Charles married Helen Vavak of Verdigre. Martha
married Henry Kliment of Bloomfield. Otto married Rose Chocholousek
of Verdigre. Elsie married Walter Fowlkes, Jr., of Newman Grove.
Helen and Rudolph Pospisil lived on a farm near Lindsay, Nebraska
until 1983 when they moved to Norfolk, Nebraska, following Helen’s
severe heart attack. They had two daughters: Norma and Helen.

Norma married Louis Busteed of Lindsay, and they are now living in
Columbus, Nebraska. They had five children: Sharlene (Mrs. Larry
Rezac) of Neligh. Their three daughters are Wendy, Amy, and Sara.
Jeannine (Mrs. Michael Neary) of Des Moines, Iowa. Their three
children are Shawn, Megan, and Melissa. Bonnie, who with her
daughter Minna, lives in Lincoln. Steven lives in Oceanside,
California. Tammy is Mrs. Jeff Olson, who resides in California.
Helen married Paul Schroeter of Lindsay and they are farming near
Lindsay. They had three daughters. Sandra (Mrs. Max Downing) of
Oklahoma has three children: Zachary, Aaron, and Jennifer. Pam (Mrs.
Keith King) of Newman Grove has a son Brent. Debbie (Mrs. Delayne
Stone) resides in Tilden and they have three children: Angie, Audrey
and Sheena.

Charles and Helen Sokol lived and farmed near Verdigre. They were
the parents of four children: Charles, Jr., James, Larry, and
Geraleen. Charles married Carol Schomberg of Pierce. They have three
daughters: Teresa, Tonja, and Tracy. James married Barbara Liska of
Verdigre and their three children are Betty, James, Jr., and Beth.
Larry married Marie Beckman of Pender. They have three sons: Todd,
Chad, and Shawn. Geraleen married Lawrence Vesely of Verdigre. They
have two daughters: Jamie and Lori. Following the death of Helen in
1975, Charles, Sr., moved to Verdigre. In 1979 he married Emily
Janak. They farm west of Verdigre and have two daughters, Elaine and
Ilene
Martha and Henry Kliment farmed near Wausa, Nebraska, until moving
to Norfolk in 1975. They had three children: Betty, Leonard, and
Gary. Betty married Robert Skalberg of Wausa, and they now live in
Norfolk and have four children: Bradley, Bryan, Barry, and Becky.
Leonard married Janice Higgins of Omaha. They live in Omaha and are
the parents of two daughters, Molly and Mandy. Gary, who married
Barbara Lauck of Wausa, lives in Lincoln. They have two daughters:
Corrine and Jolene. One son, Jeffry, died at two years of age.
Otto and Rose Sokol farmed near Newman Grove and Madison, moving to
Norfolk in 1963. Otto worked at Kings Ballroom and the Regional
Center. Rose worked at Sherwoods, Inc., until both retired. They had
two children: Jerry and Judy. Jerry married Janice Goodman of Newman
Grove and they live in Norfolk. They have two sons: Kevin and Scott.
Judy married John Coswick of Long Beach, California. They live in
Ft. Collins, Colorado, and have one daughter, Michelle.
Elsie and Walter Fowlkes, Jr., farmed near Newman Grove until 1964
when they moved into Newman Grove. Walter (Pete) was in real estate
and auctioneering until his untimely death in a car accident in
1974. They had four children: Richard, Dennis, Peggy, and Vicki.
Richard (Dick) married Diann Benson of Newman Grove. They farm north
of Newman Grove and have five children: David, Darvin, Daniel,
Dusty, and Dena. Dennis married Lynette Cederlind of Newman Grove.
He worked with his dad in real estate and took over the business
following his father’s death. They have two children, Dana and
Kerri. Peggy married Larry Haas of Harlan, Iowa, where they farm.
Their two children are Tyson and Stephanie. Vicki married Terry
Johnson of Newman Grove. They live in Loveland, Colorado, and have
two children, Preston and Abbie.
