On June 18, 1944, Vernon was united in marriage to Marceline Ann Dvorak in a double wedding with Otto Dvorak and Florence Sonder. This wedding took place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Venus, Nebraska.

Marceline was the second child of Thomas and Martha (Houzvicka) Dvorak. She was born living, at Verdigre, Nebraska.

On March 13, 1945, Vernon was inducted into the service. He served overseas in Japan as a carpenter and in heavy construction and was discharged October 28, 1946.

They are the parents of three children: Kenneth Vernon, born living; Alan Duane, born living, and Dale Andrew, born living.

Vernon and Marceline lived in Verdigre where Vernon was employed by Henry Prokop, the Minneapolis Moline Dealer, for fifteen years. Then they moved to a farm northwest of Verdigre where they have been farming and selling Grade A milk for the past twenty-two years.
