IRENE SONDER PROKOP SPERSTAD

Irene Mathilda Sonder, daughter of Andrew and Laura Sonder, was born living. She married Henry Vac Prokop on January 30, 1937, at Neligh, Nebraska.

They lived on the Prokop farm until 1946 when they moved to the town of Verdigre where Henry owned and operated the Minneapolis Moline Implement business and Irene helped with the bookkeeping.

Three daughters were born to Henry and Irene: Laura Marie, Carolyn Irene, and Sonia Martha.

Laura married Gerain Spatz and they reside in Ord, Nebraska. Their children are Tyron James, Kimberly Jayne, and John Colby.

Carolyn Irene and her husband, Rudolph Pavlik, reside in Norfolk, Nebraska, and their children are: Thomas Henry, Christopher Alan, and Cory Robert.

Sonia married Raymond Kounovsky and they live in Ord, Nebraska, with their children: Jason Carter, Morgan Ray, and Bethany Coryn Irene.

Following Henry’s death on August 31, 1962, Irene sold the implement business and worked at the Plainview hospital, West Side Café, and Alpine Village rest home. In 1965 she and her sister Evelyn Fosterman bought and began to operate the Empress Theater.

Irene married Robert L. Sperstad on August 20, 1972, and they reside in Verdigre.
