EMON STOURAL

Emon (whose real name was Emmanuel Harry) Stoural was born September 23, 1886, to Thomas and Antonia (Divis) Stoural at Verdigre, Nebraska, on a farm five miles east of Verdigre. He was the second child of a family of seven. He attended a rural school near their home.

Emon married Lilly Pavlik on October 18, 1910, and they lived on a farm near his former home. After twelve years, they moved to Verdigre and he served as road overseer for Knox County for two terms.

After years of farming, they moved to Missoula, Montana, to be with their daughter, Leona Harrsch. Here he worked as a tailor at the White Pile and Sash Company, grading lumber as it came from the machine. After eleven years, he retired at age 65 and moved back to Verdigre to spend his and Lilly’s retirement years.

He had a natural talent for drawing pictures, both scenes and portraits.

His wife passed away on October 21, 1975. His son had died May 11, 1930, at the age of 15 years.

Emon, who died at Alpine Village Nursing Home on August 27, 1977, had reached the age of 90 years. He is survived by his daughter, Leona Harrsch, two grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
