GEORGE AND CLARA [WAGNER] SUKUP

George, son of Andrew and Mary (Sedivy) Sukup was born July 11, 1885, in the Walnut community.

George grew up on a farm ten miles southwest of Verdigre where his father homesteaded. He attended school at District 25. On June 30, 1914, he married Clara Wagner at St. Ludger’s Church in Creighton. Clara was born September 30, 1892, three miles northwest of Creighton to Matt and Mary Wagner. The newlyweds started farming 6 ½ miles southwest of Verdigre, putting up all the buildings on this piece of prairie. The granary, which was built first, was home while the house and barn were being built.

Six children were born to them: George, Jr., twins Mary Ann and Marvin, and Evelyn; two sons died in infancy.

They lived on this farm all their married life.

Clara passed away March 26, 1934, at the age of 42. George S., continued to farm where he lived the rest of his life, dying January 7, 1981, at the age of 96. He enjoyed the shop and in later years, his garden and fruit trees.

George, Jr., single, is farming.

Marvin, who married Lois Barnes, of Bloomfield, is also farming. Their children are Mary Alice Butterfield of Omaha and David of Winnetoon.

Mary Ann married John Wrede of Bloomfield. They now live at Greeley, Nebraska, and have five children: Clara Lyn Nelson of Dannebrog, Douglas of Greeley, Bernard of pierce, Marie Meyer of Grand Island, and Joe of Greeley.

Evelyn married Reynold Fuchtman of Creighton. They farmed southwest of Verdigre until they moved to Creighton in 1980. They have five children: Robert of Creighton, Rosanne Weverka of Lincoln, Clifford of Creighton, Elaine Thoendel of Ewing, and Jerome of Winnetoon. There are 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
