KVIDA AND EMMA [SKOKAN] TICHY
Kvida Tichy, son of Albert and Mary Kalas Tichy, was born November
19, 1880. He survived the diphtheria outbreak which carried off a
brother and sisters in the eighties. At the age of 15 he was sent
off to a business school in Omaha, but when his father died in
September of 1896, he returned to take over responsibilities on the
farm.
On February 20, 1906, he married Emma Skokan, a daughter of Frank J.
and Anna Safarik Skokan, born April 30, 1887. There were six
children: Adolph, Lucy, Sylvia, Adela, Evelyn, and Emeline.
Adolph was born January 14, 1907, and married Helen Vokner on July
2, 1930. They had two daughters, Mary Ann (Wamberg) and Janice (Teadtke).
Lucy, born September 9, 1910, married Otto J. Liska on April 8,
1931. They had one daughter, Barbara (Sokol).
Sylvia, born June 16, 1913, married John Dowty in 1936. There were
five daughters: Judy (Peniska), Bonnie, Joyce (McElhose) deceased,
Diane (Wright) and Mary (Eckmann), and one son, Donovan. Sylvia died
January 14, 1987.
Adela was born March 22, 1917, and married Felix Chvala on July 4,
1938. They had three children: Linda (Meikle), Gary, and Deloris (Maly).
Evelyn, born June 30, 1921, married Russell Olson on November 10,
1944. Their children were Russell Gale, Dennis, Denise (Wilson) and
Dallas. Evelyn died August 18, 1971.
Emeline was born August 31, 1923. She was married twice - to Jay
Smith and LaMonte Kotrous. She was the mother of eleven children:
Jerald, James E., Jerry, Jeanne, Jayne, Jack, Joel, Jerome, twins
Janet and Jan, and Julie. Emeline died April 22, 1965.
Emma Tichy died February 24, 1949, and Kvida on December 24, 1958.
They were interred at L’Eau Qui Court Cemetery in Niobrara.
