RUDOLPH TUSHA FAMILY

Rudolph Tusha, born April 17, 1883, was Frank and Barbora’s youngest child and the only one who lived his full life in the Verdigre area. On December 18, 1905, he married Bertha Kurka, daughter of Joseph and Theresa Kurka, Dukeville, Nebraska. To them were born Edward, Verdigre, (deceased) who had a son, Marlin; Lydia, Los Angeles, California; Marvin, Denver, Colorado, (deceased), twins Viola, Los Angeles, and Vernice (Neuhaus), Wentworth, Wisconsin, whose daughter is Joycelyn; and Gaynelle (Goodrich), Omaha, Nebraska, who has a daughter, D’Arcy, and twin sons, Gregory and Christopher.

Rudolph farmed 14 miles west of Verdigre, near Knoxville from about 1904 until 1933. He planted shelterbelts, practiced crop rotation and other progressive agricultural methods long before they were being promoted by agricultural schools and government. In Verdigre he operated a feed and trucking business and later served as Village Marshall for 13 ½ years, retiring in 1957. While on the farm, Rudolph served for many years on the Stoney Butte (District No. 22) Board of Education. He was a founder and 50-year member of the Verdigre Farmer’s Union and a 50-year member of the ZCBJ Lodge. Bertha Tusha died May 18, 1969. Rudolph Tusha died June 13, 1969.
