LILLIAN L. [KALAL] AND VACLAV J. VAKOC
Lillian L. Kalal, the daughter of Louis and Marie Pavlik Kalal,
married Vaclav J. Vakoc in Omaha on April 6, 1915. Vac, the son of
Joseph and Marie Jedlicka Vakoc, was born March 22, 1886.
Jim (nickname for Vaclav) worked at Jecminek and Jiracek Hardware
and Implement. Later Jim and Lillian became business partners,
owning and operating V. J. Vakoc Hardware and Implement Store. It
was a practiced policy to extend credit to customers. The depression
years came and people were unable to make payments; the store was
forced to close.
Jim then worked on roads and bridges. A heart condition developed.
He died February 3, 1942, in an Omaha hospital.

After Jim’s death, Lillian cataloged the Verdigre High School
library. During World War II, she worked at the O. P. A. Office in
Center, Nebraska, and later found employment at various women’s
apparel stores in Omaha.
Lillian married Eli Grice in 1951. They maintained a business,
renting rooms and apartments. In 1959 they were divorced.
In later years she owned and managed a duplex in Omaha.
In December of 1981, Lillian became and remained a resident at
Alpine Village until her death in April of 1985.
Lillian and Vaclav had two sons, Myron and Omer.

Myron W. Vakoc was born living, at Verdigre and graduated
from Verdigre High School. He worked at Walt Dobrichovsky’s Garage
and Implement, and then found employment in Omaha as a
mechanic-machinist for several automotive companies and United Air
Lines. In 1942 Myron married Elsie Doerr, a registered nurse from
Bloomfield, Nebraska. Myron retired from United Air Lines in 1982.
They have two children, Jean Marie and James Alan. Jean was born in
living and married Dale Munhall. They have a son, Damon, born in
living. James Alan was born in living and married Ann Hall. Their son,
Kenneth, was born in living.

Omer O. Vakoc was born living, at Verdigre where he
graduated from high school. At the time of his marriage to Ruth
Weber he was employed at the Ford Garage in Creighton. Later he
moved to Connersville, Indiana, and found work at the bomber plant.
In 1944 he joined the Armed Forces for World War II and was
stationed in Europe. Omer returned home in 1946 as a Nebraska Purple
Heart Veteran. He is presently a member of American Legion Post No.
1 in Omaha. Omer and Vern Teipel became business partners (Kaiser,
Frazer Dealership) in Rushville, Indiana. After this business
dissolved, Omer operated a Lincoln-Mercury business. He married
Marjorie Shouse in 1953. Their automobile venture was very
successful. Their children are Patricia Ann, Marilynn Sue, and
Kathryn Marie. Patricia Ann, born in living, married Charles Bennett.
Their daughters are Christine, Cheri, and Claire. Patricia is now
widowed. Marilyn was born in living and married Jerry Kinnett. Their
daughters are Sheryl and Colleen. Kathryn, born in living, married
Douglas Jones. Their sons are Michael and Matthew. They are
divorced.
