ANTON VAVAK

Anton Vavak, son of Joseph and Theresie Vavak, was born September 15, 1864, at Sadska. In about 1879 he came from Bohemia to America with his parents. They took up a homestead west of Verdigre.

On June 13, 1897, he married Marie Sokol who came to America when she was three.

They settled on a farm ten miles west of Verdigre where they built their farm buildings and house and lived their lives.

They had twelve children, nine boys and thee girls. Joe (July 16, 1893-March 16, 1958) married Anna Novacek; Jim (September 18, 1898-September 9, 1979) married Rose Benda;

Thomas married Frances Shevela and lives in Plainview. Frank, with his wife Vlasta, also resides at Plainview. Mary (April 5, 1905-March 3, 1984) married Allen Zila. Stazy (June 10, 1903-March 13, 1966) married Joe M. Frank. Helen (August 26, 1917-July 19, 1975) married Charles Sokol. The following never married: Albert (April 12, 1900-June 3, 1977), Edward (March 25, 1897-June 29, 1983), Louis (August 25, 1906-June 20, 1982), Charles (June 1, 1908-July 28, 1982). Bennie still lives on the family farm and enjoys hunting and fishing.

Marie Sokol Vavak passed away July 10, 1927, at the age of 54 years. Anton Vavak died at the age of 75 on March 14, 1939.

Anton and Marie had 18 grandchildren, three of whom are deceased: Melvern Zila on September 29, 1969, Ervin Zila on December 19, 1977, and Marvin Vavak on August 17, 1979.
