JOE A. AND ANNA [NOVACEK] VAVAK

Joe A. Vavak, the son of Anton and Marie Sokol Vavak, was born July 16, 1893, on a farm ten miles northwest of Verdigre. He attended school at Jelen District No. 27 and for a short time was enrolled at the Verdigre Public School. He helped his parents on the farm and, at an early age, he went to work on different farms, including the Davidson Ranch.

Joe had eight brothers and three sisters: Edward, Jim, Albert, Thomas, Charles, Louis, Bennie, Frank, Mary, Stazy, and Helen.

In 1916 Joe married Anna Novacek and they took up farming nine miles west of Verdigre on a farm that once belonged to his grandfather, Joseph Vavak, Sr., and then his uncle, Joseph Vavak.

Joe and Anna had six children, four girls and two boys: Lillian (Mrs. Louis Kliment), Elsie (Mrs. Walter Pavlik), Sylvia (Mrs. Don Bratetic), Evelyn (Mrs. Andrew Meirose), Emil passed away as a small boy, and Laurence died in infancy.

They continued to farm until 1953 when they purchased a home in Verdigre where they raised a garden, had fruit trees, and lovely flowers.

Joe passed away March 16, 1958. Anna continued to live there and spent time visiting her family and grandchildren. She passed away February 24, 1965. There were fourteen grandchildren; grandson Greg Meirose passed away September 2, 1973.
