FRANK AND KATHERINE [DVORAK] VECH

Frank Vech was born July 1, 1880, in Saunders County, Nebraska, to Jim and Frances Vech. He moved with his parents to a farm in Madison, Nebraska. When he was seven years old, his father lost his life in the blizzard of 1888 as he attempted to get to school to pick up his children.

Frank grew to manhood in Madison. On October 12, 1901, he and Katherine Dvorak, daughter of Joseph and Frances Dvorak, were united in marriage.

The young couple farmed in the Madison, Atkinson, Spencer, and Winnetoon areas before coming to the Verdigre area where they settled on the farm they purchased in July of 1920. It is located five miles northwest of town. They lived here until Frank passed away on January 20, 1946.

His wife, Katherine, moved to Verdigre where she remained until 1956 at which time she entered the nursing home in Niobrara. She died May 16, 1964.

Following his father’s death, Frank’s son Tom and family purchased the farm and resided there until Tom’s death in July of 1970. Tom’s son Roger assumed the operation and purchase of the farm. He and his family continue to live there.

Frank and Katherine were the proud parents of nine children. They include; Mrs. Charles (Agnes) Konopasek, Medford, Oregon; Arnold Vech (deceased), Grand Island; Edward Vech of Verdigre; Thomas Vech (deceased), Verdigre; Mrs. Floyd (Helen) Kemnitz, Bloomfield; Mrs. Ray (Wilma) Pellikaan, Madison, Nebraska; Mrs. William (Blanche) Tomka, Madison, Nebraska; Mrs. Lonnie (Elsie) McCormick, Verdigre; and Mrs. Carl (Lillian) Ganz, Winnetoon.

Frank and Katherine were blessed with 30 grandchildren, four of whom died at birth. There are 55 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
