EDWARD J. AND BARBARA [PECHA] VEJVODA, SR.
Edward J. Vejvoda, Sr., was born in Protovin, Bohemia, on April 28,
1888, and passed away on September 2, 1959, at the age of 71 years,
4 months, and 4 days.
When he was 19 years old, he came to America and settled in Omaha.
There he married Barbara Pecha in 1913. Barbara was born, according
to her tombstone, in 1893. Nine children were born to this union:
Eddie, Lydia Obert, Helen Aber, Marie Webster, Adolph, George,
Frank, Daniel, and Jack.
Shortly after they were married, they moved to Verdigre and worked
in the blacksmith shop with his new brother-in-law, Vac Mikulecky,
until 1925 when Mikuleckys moved back to Omaha and Edward Vejvoda
bought Vac’s share in the shop, continuing in this capacity until
1943. After that he had employment with Knox County Roads and C&NW
Railroad.
Barbara Vejvoda died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Vac Mikulecky,
on Omaha on November 18, 1944.
During his last years, Mr. Vejvoda lived in retirement. He was a
member of the Catholic Workmen Lodge. He was very proud of the fact
that all six sons had served their country in military duty, and
this distinction was held by him for a large distance in this part
of Nebraska. Not only did they all serve, but they also represented
all branches of the service.
