HENRY AND IDA [NICHOLSON] VOLQUARDSEN

Henry Morse Volquardsen was born in Germany on March 18, 1864. In 1882 he came to the United States and worked on farms around Denison, Iowa. In 1888 he became a citizen of the United States.

Henry married Ida Nicholson in 1887 or 1888 and there were ten children born, one daughter died in infancy.

In 1907 they moved to Knox County and then in 1924 they moved to White River, South Dakota. Henry died January 25, 1927, at the age of 62 years, 10 months, and 7 days. He was survived by his wife, nine children, a sister Mrs. John Hargans, and a brother Ferdinand.

Ida Nicholson was born in Holstein, Germany, on February 3, 1868. She died September 28, 1939. She came to America when she was 18 years old and a year later married Henry Volquardsen in Crawford County, Indiana. They lived in various localities in Iowa until 1907 when they moved to Knox County. They lived near Bloomfield and then in western Knox County. She moved to White River, South Dakota, in 1924 with her husband and family. Ida was survived by eight children and a brother, Carl Nicholson, of California.

Their children were: Louis, White River, birth date unknown, died in 1952; John, Walnut, born February 16, 1892, died October 20, 1956; William, Bloomfield, born in 1893 and died in 1965; Mrs. Dick Winchell, Stanton, Minnesota, born 1896, died in 1965; Henry, Norfolk, 1899-1960; Fred, Quincy, Illinois; Ernest, Maxwell, North Dakota; Minnie, 1905-6 to 1920; Martin, Plymouth, Indiana.
