JOSPEH O. AND MARIE [SUKUP] VONDRACEK

Joseph, the youngest son of George J. and Mamie R. (Holan) Vondracek, Sr., was born living. He attended Norfolk Junior College (NTCC) after his high school graduation where he received an Associate of Arts Degree. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Wayne State College. Joe taught at Knoxville District 37, the Walnut School, and Lynch Public School. He also worked at the local Gambles Store and operated the Verdigre Greenhouse. On October 21, 1972, he married Marie Sukup.

Marie is the daughter of Walter T. and Joan (Vecera) Sukup. She was born on living. Her brothers are Walter John, Kenneth Allen, and Glenn Andrew. Marie lived on her parents’ farm until her marriage to Joe. She attended the Sukup School, then transferred to Verdigre Public School to attend Junior and Senior High School.

Joe and Marie continued to operate the greenhouse until 1977. They then moved to Springfield, South Dakota, while Joe worked as a Quality Control Inspector and later a Production Supervisor at Dale Electronics in Yankton.

The family moved back to Nebraska to help Marie’s father on the farm for a year.

They moved to Thedford, Nebraska, where Joe taught third and fourth grades at the Thedford Elementary School for two years. While in Thedford, Marie became a certified Emergency medical Technician. She is now a member of the Verdigre Rescue Squad.

They then moved back to Verdigre where Joe established a Repair Service and bought the Verdigre Greenhouse back from Greg and Diane Krupicka.

The couple was blessed with four children. Gwendolyn Ann was born on lOctober 22, 1973, and died on November 6, 1973; Joseph Walter was born on living; Jedidiah Paul was born on living, and Vanessa Marie was born on living.
